Flooring & Countertops
Gone are the days where concrete was just a foundation, now it is a feature! And a pretty popular one at that. With the aesthetically pleasing, low maintenance and durability of concrete, it is quickly becoming a preferred option of many home and business owners. Polished concrete can give a classy look, whilst also being one of the most robust materials available on the market. Whilst it is not the only option, it certainly stands out amongst its competitors due to its advantages over other products such as granite, tile, quartz and other popular flooring and countertop materials.
Customization – One of the major benefits of using concrete is its versatility. You can easily customize the shape of your flooring or counter tops with ease and without the concern of breaking as it starts as a pourable material. The color options are endless and can even be customized to look like granite, marble amongst other desired effects. You will be able to have your choice of edging and finishes to ensure you are meeting the desired look. These elements can be customized to achieve a number of different styles, whether that be modern, rustic, industrial or contemporary. Stain resistant – When completing concrete flooring or counter tops, it is highly recommended that a seal is applied as concrete is a naturally porous material. The purpose of the seal is to ensure that the surface is stain resistant, again to have the longest possible life span. Although it will not be completely stain proof, it gives you a greater amount of time to remove the product that could potentially stain your surface. High temperatures, such as hot pans being placed on a countertop can damage the sealer, so be sure to be aware of that when selecting a product like this for your kitchen needs. Appearance – As concrete surfaces are customizable and can be made into any shape required, this means that there will be no grout or joint lines. This means that you are able to have the cleanest possible finish on both your floors and counter tops. As concrete is not a static material, the appearance of the concrete can change and often enhance, gaining character with age. The addition of fiberglass in the mix of concrete surfaces makes it both more durable, light weight. This sees a stronger bonding of material and makes it less susceptible to damage and cracks. Maintenance – As a seal is applied at the completion of the project to protect the concrete surface, you will still need to wipe stains away quickly to ensure that they do not soak in. If a stain is left to soak into the concrete, it can create a permanent stain. It is recommended that a seal is applied regularly, generally between one to three years. A PH neutral cleaner is recommended to ensure the longevity of the applied sealant. The absence of grout also makes cleaning a much easier task as there are no overly porous join marks throughout your surface absorbing stains. |
